How a 12-person law firm in India uses an AI Employee to track case status

Aug 14, 2026

A 12-person law firm in India runs enough active cases that no single partner has the full picture of every matter at any given time. Status updates depended on whoever last touched the file remembering to say something. We deployed an AI Employee trained on their case files, documents, and filings to close that gap.

What it actually does

The AI Employee reads the documents and filings attached to each case as they're added — pleadings, correspondence, orders, internal notes — and keeps a running understanding of where each matter stands. When someone at the firm asks about a case, it gives a plain overview of the current status, what's happened recently, and what the next expected step is, instead of someone having to reconstruct that from a folder of PDFs.

Why this mattered for a firm this size

At 12 people, everyone is close to the work, but nobody is close to all of it. A partner covering for a colleague, or fielding a client call on a matter they didn't personally handle, used to lose time just getting oriented before they could say anything useful. Now that context is a question away instead of a search through the case file.

Keeping a person in the loop

The AI Employee gives an overview and a next-step read, it doesn't file anything or make a legal judgment call. Every answer points back to the underlying documents it drew from, so a partner can verify before relying on it for anything that matters. That boundary was non-negotiable for a firm handling client matters, and it's also what made the team comfortable adopting it quickly.

What changed

Status questions that used to mean "let me check and get back to you" are now answered on the spot, correctly, most of the time — and when they're not, the source documents are right there to check. The time saved shows up less in any single case and more in how many status questions a firm this size fields in a given week.
